Abstract

Rain cloud types become one of the things that significantly affect the relationship Z-R (Reflectivity-Rain rate) to achieve better accuracy. While this for the territories of Indonesia, including Jakarta, still using Marshall-Palmer relationship on its  operational  radar  regardless  of  the classification of the type of rain clouds. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of classifying the type of rain clouds in determining the accuracy of rainfall estimation of the relationship Z-R is used. This study begins by classifying rain from Convective clouds and stratiform clouds. The next stage is to compare the case of Convective clouds and from stratiform clouds against rain estimation results using the relationship of Marshall-Palmer, WSR-88D Convective and Rosenfeld Tropical. The results showed there were differences in the rain conditions of convective and stratiform clouds that greatly affect the estimation of rain through Z-R relationship. The use of Z-R relationships is different for different types of rain clouds which are necessary to achieve a better estimation accuracy. Then the determination of Z-R relationship for Jakarta area is needed to better estimate accuracy by considering the size distribution of the rain drops
