Abstract

Heavy rain is an extreme weather phenomenon characterized by rainfall intensity of more than 100mm. It is included in the extreme weather phenomenon because heavy rain can cause other disasters such as floods and landslides. On December 17, 2020 there was a heavy rain event with rainfall intensity of more than 100 mm. This incident caused hundreds of houses in 3 sub-districts of the Cirebon region and a number of roads along the Japura path to the pantura to be flooded with a height of up to 60 cm. This research was conducted to determine the atmospheric conditions before, during and after heavy rains occurred. The data used are IR channel Himawari-8 satellite data, GSMap precipitation estimation, AAWS Lemah Abang Cirebon rainfall data, streamlined map, SOI index and MJO phase. Based on the analysis carried out, it was concluded that at the time of the heavy rain that occurred on December 17, 2020, the peak temperature of the cloud was recorded at -82 ° C which indicates that the cloud was a Cumulunimbus cloud so that heavy rain occurred with an intensity of 162.4 mm / day.
