STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE 26 DECEMBER 2004 ACEH AFTERSHAKE AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF COULOMB STRESS CHANGE
Main Article Content
Abstract
During the last few years, scientists have been focusing on studying the interaction between the aftershocks distribution and the change of coulomb stress, as well as the interaction between one major earthquake and other earthquake events, which were closely located. The aim of this paper is to examine the distribution of aftershocks of Aceh earthquake on December 2005 from the changes of coulomb stress pattern. The main earthquake data, along with rupture parameters, were treated as the inputs for analyzing the coulomb stress change, with the help from a software package, Coulomb v3.3. The results showed that 49.8% of the aftershocks of the Aceh earthquake on 26 December 2004 is distributed on the areas where positive coulomb stress change were calculated, whereas the rest is located on the negative change
