Abstract

This research was conducted to determine monthly rainfall patterns in the Bali region, determine the level of strength of El Nino on rainfall in Bali and to determine the level of meteorological drought in the Bali region when El Nino occurs. The level of drought in the Bali region is measured using the SPI (Standardized Precipitation Index) method. The intensity of El Nino is determined using the Sea Surface Temperature Anomaly value in the central equatorial Pacific Ocean or Nino area of ??3.4. This research uses monthly rainfall data from 53 (fifty three) rain post points spread evenly throughout Bali and sea surface temperature data for the El Nino 3.4 area for the period 1991- 2010. Monthly rainfall conditions and the length of the season in the Bali region vary greatly, the central part of the Bali region is an area that has higher monthly rainfall values ??and a longer rainy season compared to other regions. El Nino which occurred in 1997/1998 with Strong Intensity, while El Nino which occurred in 2009/2010 with Weak - Moderate Intensity. the nature of below normal rain. El Nino with weak-moderate intensity (2009/2010) the nature of the rain that occurred in the Bali region varied greatly from Below Normal to Above Normal. El Nino with Strong Intensity (1997/1998), slightly dry to very dry drought conditions consistently occurred in the southern part of Bali, the coast of Gianyar, Klungkung and parts of Karangasem. El Nino in 2009/2010 with Weak-Moderate Intensity, generally dry conditions in the Bali region were in the Normal category
